Tom Peterson
Consultant

Pastor Tom Peterson has served the Church as an ordained ELCA pastor for forty plus years. He has walked with congregations as they live out their unique calling in the places where they are rooted, while doing vibrant ministry within and beyond their walls. He believes the stewardship of sharing one’s time, talents and financial support is a statement of a committed faith and speaks of being part of something bigger than oneself. Bringing about God’s Kingdom where a congregation and individual members are planted is an awesome calling and mission.
Pastor Tom served four ELCA parishes in the upper Midwest and has been a leader in capital campaigns in all four. Each church enhanced their ministry with the results of their campaigns when they built a new sanctuary, remodeled an education wing, built a new fellowship hall and classrooms, retired a mortgage debt, did the “not-so-glittsy” work, but much needed, restoration and repair to parts of a magnificent
downtown church facility, and/or engaged in special mission support projects. He has seen congregations energized as they catch the Spirit and share a vision for what is possible as they commit to stretching themselves.
Pastor Tom retired from a settled parish ministry setting in the late summer of 2020 and has followed that up to
pursue the role of consultant for capital campaigns in congregations and non-profit organizations and to, also, step into interim positions when the Church called. Parish pastoring and consulting are ministries he loves.
Pastor Tom and his wife, Cindy, have two adult children, a grown foster daughter who has remained a special part of their family, and four young grand-daughters. Cindy and Pastor Tom live in west central Minnesota and feel blessed to enjoy the sunrises over the lake and the nature that surrounds them.
Pastor Tom completed the Executive Certificate in Religious Fundraising course in the summer of 2018, with a personal emphasis on generosity/philanthropy, year-round stewardship programming and capital campaigns. The capital campaigns he has led and helped navigate and inspire over the years have been challenging and rewarding.
